Wallaby Wanders In Front Of A Car In Leafy Oxfordshire

This wallaby is a long way from home.

The marsupial, which is native to Australia, was spotting running in front of a car in the English county of Oxfordshire.

The animal hopped alongside the vehicle being driven by Brian Lockyer, who was on his way to work in Tetsworth on a country lane.

The 40-year-old warehouse worker from Didcot slowed down and waited for the wallaby to get out of the way of the car, taking a video of the animal with his phone.

The curious wallaby inspected the vehicle before disappearing.

“Its eyes looked straight into the headlights and it just started at me,” said Mr Lockyer.

The wallaby wanders off down the lane.

“I drove by slowly and it just jumped along beside the car.

“People said it was really amazing.”

Although native to Australia, a number of wallabies have been spotted in hills and hedges around England.

“I couldn’t believe it when I saw it and I didn’t think my friends would either,” said Mr Lockyer.

“I have been driving that same route for 20 years. I see a lot of wildlife but this is totally off the scale.

“It’s all well and good spotting one but I had to take a video to have the evidence.

“People were amazed that I caught it, but this wallaby clearly loved the attention.”

He said about a dozen wallabies were let out from Stonor Park near Henley two decades ago, which was behind their population spike.
