"I'll have a Walnut Whip without the walnut" – said no one ever.

So it's no surprise that every proud Brit is laudably offended at the news that Walnut Whips are removing their walnuts and changing their name to "Whips".

Yep, Nestlé, the maker of this national treasure, have sparked outrage after announcing they're set to launch new versions of the classic chocolate, without a walnut on the top.

The new "Whips" will come in three flavours – vanilla, caramel and mint – as well as the traditional walnut flavour.

Taking to Twitter, one person wrote, "How can you have a walnut whip without the walnut???!!", while someone else said, "Taking the nuts off a Walnut Whip is like buying a car without a steering wheel."

Another added: "They wal-nut taste the same!"

But some people defended the decision, saying, "I'm honestly glad about the Walnut Whip news, I never did eat the walnut", and, "Removing the walnut from the Walnut Whip is progress. Long live the Whip."

In a statement, a spokesperson for Nestlé said the decision was taken to change the product because the company "wanted to extend the whip range".

"Walnut Whip remains on sale alongside our new vanilla, caramel and mint versions.

"This means there is something for consumers wanting to try something new, as well as for long-standing fans of our century-old walnut product.

"As the original version, with a long history, Walnut Whips are being sold slightly differently, in the same way as they traditionally have been for more than a century.

"They will continue to be sold as a single treat as they have been ever since their launch in 1910. They will also be sold in larger six packs at Christmas, when consumers want to be able to purchase them in larger quantities."

Is nothing sacred anymore?!
