Walthamstow house fire seen for miles as flames rise into night sky with most of property damaged

Firefighters have battled a house fire in East London overnight. Disruption to the surrounding area continues this morning (Saturday, June 29).

As of 7.04am, Mission Grove was still reportedly closed in both directions from Buxton Road to Palmerston Road after the blaze at a property in Osborne Grove. The LFB was first alerted to the incident at 10.07pm last night.

A spokesperson for the brigade said: "Eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters tackled a fire at a mid-terraced house on Osborne Grove in Walthamstow. Part of the ground floor, most of the first floor and most of the roof were alight.

"One of the Brigade's 32-metre turntable ladders was used at the scene as a water tower to help fight the fire from above. Crews are likely to remain on scene throughout the night.

"Road closures remain in place from the junction of Mission Grove and Palmerston Road through to Buxton Road. Control Officers took 22 calls regarding the blaze.

"The first was received at 10.07pm and the fire was under control by 12.07am. Crews from Walthamstow, Leyton, Tottenham and surrounding fire stations attended the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation."
