The Downing St Cats Are Fighting So Savagely People Are Worried One Might Get Killed

Therese May has only been Prime Minister for a couple of weeks but there is already a huge dispute erupting - although fortunately not between her ministers.

In fact, the real story of political savagery at Downing Street is between a pair of cats who have apparently had their most brutal fight yet.

Larry, who lives at Number 10, is said to have lost his collar after getting into the scrap with Palmerston - who lives at the Foreign Office.

The moggies have apparently been getting more and more irate with each other over recent weeks, resulting in their latest cat bust-up.

Political photographer Steve Back, who runs the Political Pics Twitter account, has been documenting their fights and witnessed the most recent incident.

He told The Telegraph: “It was utterly appalling, the fighting has been going on for weeks and weeks.

“This morning I was there covering normal political events and suddenly Palmerston appeared from the foreign office.

"Suddenly these two were at each other hammer and tongs. First they were hissing at each other and we didn’t think they were going to fight, so we walked off.

"The next thing we heard there was this terrible screaming. we turned around and they were fighting outside number 11 literally ripping fur off each other.

“Palmerston’s ear is in a terrible mess and Larry has lost his collar.”

Mr Back revealed that he got scratched on the leg while breaking the cats up and he is now worried that the animosity between the pair is so intense that one of them may end up getting killed.

He added: "They are going to end up killing each other - they were brought in as a PR stunt and now it has gone too far.”

Larry, who was brought into Number 10 in 2011, and Palmerston, who arrived earlier this year, were both adopted from the Battersea Dogs and Cats home.

They are set to be joined by Gladstone, who is being adopted by the Treasury to catch mouse at the famous street.
