Warning Over New ‘Find My iPhone’ Scam Targeting People Who’ve Lost Phones

A clever new scam is targeting iPhone users who rely on ‘Find My iPhone’ to track down lost devices.

The ‘Find My iPhone’ function allows users to track lost devices, but also to request alerts when a device is found.

But hackers are using the function to send victims ‘phishing’ emails designed to harvest passwords - and steal accounts.

Web designer Joonas Kiminki said he had an iPhone stolen - and was targeted with an email directing him to enter his Apple account details.

It was only at the last moment that he noticed that the URL in the email wasn’t an official Apple one - it was a fake site designed to steal user details.

Kiminki said, ‘If you ever lose your iPhone, iPad or iPod, be extra alert for upcoming identity theft attempts.

‘This is what Google.com and Apple should’ve told me 12 days ago when I searched for what to do.

‘The scam was so professional with perfect English and mobile responsive web pages that I consider myself lucky not to have given away my password.’
