VISITORS to a popular beauty spot have been given a warning by police.

Summer finally seems to have arrived, with temperatures slowly but surely creeping into the 20s.

As such, many are now busy planning days out in the sunshine and one of the most popular areas around is Pickmere Lake.

However, Knutsford Police have urged anyone who visits to make sure they park considerately.

A spokesperson for the force said: “We advise motorists to park sensibly and not on the single yellow lines, as restrictions run from the May 1 until the September 30.

“There are other spots away from the area nearby, where cars can park to avoid congestion and unnecessary obstructions.”

Meanwhile, Pickmere Parish Council recently announced the gate to the car park at the Informal Recreational Open Space (IROS) until the end of September.

This comes following a rise in anti-social and criminal behaviour around the lake.

“Since the lockdown, Pickmere’s appeal has attracted increasing visitors,” said a council spokesperson.

“Unfortunately, a minority has caused issues including vandalism, drug use, littering, and aggression, disturbing the village’s peace.

“Significant damage to public property and threatening behaviour towards residents have prompted concerns to be raised with the council.

“After widespread consultation with residents and with local police, the council concluded that locking the IROS gate is, while regretful, a necessary temporary measure.

“The parish council knows this slightly inconveniences, responsible visitors, but it prioritises the mental health and well-being of our community.”
