Patients at Warrington Hospital can now manage their appointments online, via the NHS App.

Patients with an upcoming appointment at Warrington and Halton Hospital will receive a notification in the NHS App and can view their appointment date.

They will also receive a text message with a link to a patient portal where they can download their appointment letter, and request to change or cancel if it’s not convenient.

Additional information on the clinic, parking, maps and the opportunity to add the appointment to a mobile calendar is also available. A single point of contact for any queries is also included.

If a patient has not viewed the letter within three days, a paper copy will be issued. Patients can choose to continue to receive their letters via post.

Patients on waiting lists can also confirm if they still need an appointment, making the process more convenient and efficient.

Dr Tom Poulter, chief information officer at Warrington and Halton Hospitals, said: “As a trust we are always looking for ways to improve the experience of our patients. This new system is a great example, making it more convenient for them to view their hospital appointments and health information in a single place.

“Patients can now view appointments faster and the information is accessible anytime via the NHS App or portal.

“We anticipate that having timely reminders and notifications, together with easy patient access to their health information, will help to reduce the number of missed clinic appointments. We will also be able to reschedule cancelled appointments more quickly and easily via the App, helping to reduce waiting lists and improving clinic utilisation.

“Switching to digital letters will support our efforts to be more environmentally friendly by reducing our printing and postage costs.”

The patient portal is be supplied by DrDoctor and provides a safe and secure way to access appointments online. Appointment text messages will come from the number 07860 039 092.
