Watch Affleck In The First Gone Girl Trailer

The first trailer of the film adaptation of Gillian Flynn's best-selling novel Gone Girl, starring Ben Affleck, has been released.

Set to a cover version of the song She, sung by Richard Butler from The Psychedelic Furs, the clip shows Affleck's character, Nick Dunne, appealing for information about his missing wife Amy, played by British actress Rosamund Pike.

Nick is the main suspect in Amy's disappearance on their fifth wedding anniversary and the film appears to follow the book's plot closely as police try to uncover the truth.

The dark trailer, which contains very little dialogue, ends with Amy floating underwater and a voiceover from Nick saying: "I did not kill my wife. I am not a murderer."

The movie is directed by David Fincher who also directed The Social Network, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and the hit television series House Of Cards.

Flynn's book was published in June 2012 and by the end of its first year on the shelves it had sold over two million copies in print and digital editions.

Gone Girl will be released in the UK on October 3.
