WATCH Billboard Music Awards: Celine Dion Pays Tribute To Rene Angelil As Their Son Surprises Her On Stage

Last night’s Billboard Music Awards marked Celine Dion’s first televised performance since her husband René Angélil and brother Daniel passed away in January, and the emotional star broke down in tears when her fifteen-year-old son, René-Charles, surprised her on stage with the Icon Award at the Las Vegas ceremony.

What an amazing surprise for the 48-year-old.

Celine is also mum to five-year-old twins Nelson and Eddy and as she accepted the award she apologised to the crowd, explaining: “I’m so sorry. I’m sorry for crying. I want to be so strong for my family and kids.”

She then added to her son: “I don’t want to cry in front of you.”

Continuing to the crowd, Celine shared: “Thank you very much. This is such a tremendous honour. Music has been my passion since before I can almost remember.

"I want to thank the fans for travelling through music with me in good and bad times… All the people who believed in me. My family. My mum who wrote my first song, my children, Rene Charles.

"And most importantly, my beloved husband whom I know will continue to watch over me from up above.”

Celine paid tribute to her husband by performing his favourite song, Queen’s ‘The Show Must Go On’ at the ceremony, admitting to Entertainment Tonight after the show: “To try to perform that song without collapsing was big enough.

"And then I turned around and I saw my son. As a mother, I really, through this whole process of our new life, wanted to be strong. I thought I was going to make it through the whole night without tears and show strength, and love won.

"I just collapsed. I’m very thankful for the award and proud of my family so much.”

Last week, Celine opened up about how she broke the news of Rene’s death to their two young twins.
