Watch dramatic armed police scenes as Bradford street turned into film set for BBC crime drama

A dramatic scene unfolded in the heart of Bradford as film-makers gathered to shoot a fast-moving sequence for a BBC crime thriller.

A street in Little Germany was closed off to allow cast and crew for the drama Virdee to shoot a scene featuring what appeared to be armed police carrying out a dramatic arrest. The new six-part series is set and filmed in Bradford. Little Germany is an historic enclave on the edge of the city centre and known for its magnificent listed buildings that we built by wealthy European wool merchants who settled in the city in the 19th century.

Passersby in Burnett Street watched as the actors went through their scenes on Wednesday this week. Police vehicles and actors with body armour and camouflage-style clothing added to the drama.

The new crime thriller is set in Bradford and is based on AA Dhand's much-loved novels. Dhand was raised in Bradford and trained as a pharmacist before turning to writing.

Filming is currently ongoing in Bradford for the new six-part series which is being adapted for the screen. Staz Nair will lead the cast as Detective Harry Virdee, with Aysha Kala as Saima Virdee, Harry’s wife. Nina Singh will play Tara Virdee, Harry’s niece and a keen crime reporter, with Vikash Bhai as Harry’s brother-in-law Riaz Hyatt.

Virdee follows Detective Harry Virdee, a cop disowned by his Sikh family for marrying Saima, who is Muslim. Harry's personal life in chaos but he must hunt down a serial killer targeting the Asian community.

Hollywood great Hans Zimmer will be composing the theme for Virdee. The award-winning composer is famous for his work on Interstellar and The Dark Knight among other films.

The six-part series is adapted for the screen by AA Dhand and is produced by Magical Society for BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
