Jack Lisowski kicked off his World Snooker Championship campaign with a stunning four-ball plant in his clash with Ding Junhui that left commentators and punters alike lost for words.

The 32-year-old from Cheltenham was given tough assignment against Chinese star Junhui in the first round of this year's Crucible tournament, but pulled off the superb shot at the start of the sixth frame despite finding himself trapped behind a row of red balls. Lisowski kept his composure to use the momentum of four balls to send one red crashing into the corner pocket.

The commentator on duty during the game doubted Lisowski ability to carry out the shot, describing the challenge as a "snake of reds" prior to the Englishman's fine effort. Snooker punters were also left stunned by the four ball plant, with one taking to social media to write "excellent shot this," while another simply commented "insane".

It looked like it was going to be a testing afternoon for Lisowski after Ding made a lightning fast start with a brilliant 127 clearance in the opening frame. After falling 2-0 behind, Lisowski managed to bring the score back to 2-2, by rattling of breaks of 72 and 91.

Despite the setback, Lisowski has fought back to claim a 5-4 lead, with the game set to resume on Wednesday. Heading into the break, Lisowski managed to edge in front by coming out on top in three of the last five frames to give him the edge.

"Jackpot" reached the last eight of the World Championships back in 2022, but after dropping out of the top 16, had to qualify for this year's tournament by beating Matthew Stevens 10-3 last week. Lisowski has reached six ranking finals, but has been runner-up each time, losing three finals to Judd Trump, two to Neil Robertson, and one to Mark Selby. He has made one maximum break in professional competition.
