Watch: Moment Donald Trump seems to be snubbed by new French President

French President Emmanuel Macron appeared to go out of his way to avoid shaking hands with Donald Trump during a very public meeting in Brussels.

In the footage shared on Macron’s own Twitter feed, the new French President can be seen walking towards a gaggle of world leaders at yesterday’s (Thursday) Nato summit in Brussels, including Angela Merkel and Mr Trump.

While the US President is directly opposite Mr Macron, the Frenchman seems to deliver him a very public snub, performing a sudden about turn in the direction of the German Chancellor.

He then greets Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel and NATO secretary general Jens Stoltenber before Mr Trump pointedly holds out his hand.

The ensuing handshake proved to be quite a spectacle, with the American demonstrating his signature energetic manoeuvrings, and seeming reluctant to let go.

Mr Macron eventually released his hand, moving on to greet other members of the group, while Mr Trump delivered a parting arm smack to his French equivalent.

Could the post, captioned “In Brussels, United with our allies @NATO” mark the beginning of a beautiful relationship? We can but wait and see.
