A Quiet Place is taking fans back to the very beginning.

With the new prequel film A Quiet Place: Day One starring Lupita Nyong'o and Joseph Quinn, out June 28, viewers will finally learn more about how the alien creatures with ultrasonic hearing invaded Earth.

The first film, directed and written by John Krasinski, follows a married couple played by Krasinski and his real-life wife Emily Blunt as they struggle to raise their children in the post-apocalyptic world.

The 2018 movie was a blockbuster hit and received various award nominations, eventually resulting in a sequel titled A Quiet Place Part II.

Though the 2020 follow-up gave a glimpse of the monsters’ arrival through flashbacks, the upcoming prequel will dive more into the backstory of the franchise.

How to Watch A Quiet Place Movies in Chronological Order

A Quiet Place: Day One (2024)

Released on June 28, 2024, A Quiet Place: Day One serves as a prequel to the original franchise. Set in New York City, the film follows Lupita Nyong'o’s character Sam during the early stages of the alien invasion. Along the way, she teams up with a number of other new characters, including a man named Eric played by Stranger Things alum Joseph Quinn.

Though the film is a spinoff, it does include some subtle connections to the original movies, including Djimon Hounsou’s character — first seen in A Quiet Place Part II simply as Man on the Island, who serves as the leader of a group of survivors living on an island.

A Quiet Place (2018)

A Quiet Place first starts with the Abbott family (parents Lee and Evelyn, their sons Beau and Marcus, and daughter Regan, who is deaf) living on an isolated farm in upstate New York. One day, they have to travel into town to get medicine, at which point their youngest son Beau is killed by one of the alien creatures.

The rest of the story takes place about a year after his death. Per a shot of a calendar that denotes Oct. 3, 2021 as Day 473 of the alien invasion, it’s assumed that the initial alien attack started in June 2020.

The film revolves around the Abbott family as they deal with both the loss of their son as well as the upcoming arrival of their newborn child, all while trying to keep everyone in the family silent to avoid detection by the monsters.

A Quiet Place Part II (2020)

The second film largely follows the events of the first. The Abbott family patriarch, Lee, is tragically killed while trying to save his children. With their home destroyed by the events of the first film, the rest of the family sets out to find other survivors.

Eventually, they come in contact with a group of people on an island, who reveal that they have been able to live peacefully after learning that the aliens cannot swim. Through a series of events, the family is able to uncover more information about the aliens’ weaknesses, including using the high-frequency audio feedback from Regan's cochlear implant as a weapon.
