Watch Vera star Brenda Blethyn do 'the floss' while filming on Teesside

Brenda Blethyn delighted fans when she broke out into a few dance moves while filming the final series of Vera in Hartlepool.

The cast and crew of the much-loved show spent two days in Hartlepool as part of the filming for series 14 of the iconic ITV drama. Sadly, it was announced last month that Vera would be hanging up her trenchcoat and the show, which is mostly filmed in the North East, would be coming to an end.

However, the cast and crew were in Hartlepool yesterday working on the show. Fans went along to watch the action at the Town Wall on the Headland and actress Brenda Blethyn even did a little bit of 'the floss' dance between takes.

Onlooker, Bethy May, said: "She is such a lovely soul. Spoke to her today and her team, all very lovely."

Brenda has played DCI Vera Stanhope since the popular show began on ITV back in 2011. The character is renowned for her trenchcoat and her battered Land Rover Defender.

Last month fans were left devastated when it was announced the show, based on the books of Ann Cleeves, would be coming to an end. The series will come to an end after two last two-hour feature-length tales, both set to air in 2025.

The 78-year-old actress said: "Working on Vera has been a joy from beginning to end and I'm sad to be saying cheerio. But I am so proud of our achievements over the last fourteen years. I'll be forever grateful to the wonderful Ann Cleeves who created Vera, and to Elaine Collins who saw fit to cast me in the role.

"The producers, dream cast and crew have been fabulous and I'm going to miss them, but I won't forget their huge talent, the camaraderie, laughter or kindness we shared nor the friendship of the people of the North East and our fans worldwide. Thank you from the bottom of my heart."

Over the years the actors and crew have been spotted hundreds of times filming on location across the North East, including on Teesside.

This included in July 2022 when the film crew were spotted in a number of locations across Hartlepool including The Marina, The Railway Station and Ward Jackson Park.
