Joss Whedon's long-awaited return to TV is shaping up nicely, with yet more names signing up for the upcoming science fiction drama.

The Nevers, which is set to air on HBO, will tell the story of "a gang of Victorian women who find themselves with unusual abilities, relentless enemies, and a mission that might change the world".

So, who's joining the likes of Laura Donnelly, Olivia Williams, and James Norton for this intriguing trip back to the 19th century?

As reported by TheWrap, Waterloo Road's Elizabeth Berrington – aka Ruby Fry – will be switching school corridors for something a little more sinister, as well as Black Mirror and Murdered by My Father star Kiran Sonia Sawar and Hanna's Anna Devlin.

Viola Prettejohn (Counterpart), Ella Smith (Babylon), and Martyn Ford (Kingsman: The Golden Circle) are also set to star.

The Nevers' latest casting update comes weeks after the show's leading roles were confirmed. Olivia Williams will take on Lavinia Bidlow, the champion of the Touched – the name given to the group of women with mysterious and unusual abilities.

Lavinia finances the Orphanage, which is where Laura Donnelly's Amalia True and the rest of the Touched live through her family's fortune and wealth.

The Nevers was announced last year, with Joss Whedon promising fans one of the "most ambitious" narratives he's ever created – and this is coming from the man who imagined Buffy.

"I honestly couldn't be more excited," he said. "I can't imagine a better home for [The Nevers] than HBO. Not only are they the masters of cinematic long-form, but their instant understanding of my odd, intimate epic was as emotional as it was incisive."
