Paramount+ has released the first images for Waterloo Road star Angela Griffin's new drama The Serial Killer's Wife.

Griffin will play DI Aline Edgeworth in the four-part series, which is based on the book of the same name by Alice Hunter.

The first look images show Griffin as Edgeworth as well as co-stars Doctor Who's Annabel Scholey, Poldark actor Jack Farthing and Luke Treadaway.

The synopsis for the series reads: "Set in a family home nestled in an idyllic English town, Beth Fairchild (Scholey) has prepared a surprise birthday party for her husband Tom (Farthing).

"With most of the village present, as Tom is the beloved local doctor, Beth's world is turned upside down when the party is interrupted by the police and Tom is arrested for the murder of his former assistant.

"Beth believes her husband has been wrongly accused but she soon makes some shocking discoveries that cast doubt on his innocence. As she confides her worries to Adam (Treadaway), Tom's best friend from childhood, further developments see Beth begin to realise not everything in her supposedly idyllic life is as it seems."

Griffin's character is described as someone "deeply driven to uncover the truth, no matter what the consequence".

Speaking about the show, Griffin said: "It has been a thrill to explore the drive behind DI Aline Edgeworth's determination to find the truth and working with such a talented cast and creative team has been a real bonus."

Meanwhile, Griffin recently revealed to Digital Spy that there was talk about bringing back the documentary series Emergency with Angela Griffin on Sky, but it didn't happen.

"We nearly did [bring it back], but then, the reason they got me there in the first place is you want that first impression, and then after I've done two series of it, I'd started to wise up to it," she explained.

The Serial Killer's Wife is coming soon exclusively to Paramount+.
