Watford eateries have been told they have ‘good’ food hygiene in a new release of ratings.

Inspectors from Watford Borough Council have graded the cafes and takeaway on hygienic food handling, cleanliness of their facilities and management of food safety.

Inspectors gave Zax Piri Piri, a chicken takeaway at 131 Vicarage Road, a 4/5 after it was assessed on May 23.

Watford Café, at 342 St Albans Road, is now rated 3/5 (generally satisfactory) after it was assessed on May 22.

It comes as two Watford takeaways which were previously scored 1/5 improved on their ‘major improvement necessary’ ratings.

Max Peri Peri owner Khursheed Mohammed said he was “happy” with the 4/5 score they received after a revisit on April 30, adding he was “confident” they would maintain the improved rating.

Pizza Hot Express, at 99 Vicarage Road, has also raised its score to 4/5 following a reinspection on June 19.
