High winds and rain began to lash Mexico on Monday, October 22, as people prepared for the onslaught of Hurricane Willa.

This video shows the waves crashing against the shore on Punta Perula beach in Jalisco.

The state of Jalisco was among five Mexican states under a blue storm alert issued by the National System of Civil Protection, El Universal reported. Up to 150 mm of rain was forecast to hit some areas.

According to a Facebook post by the NOAA Satellite and Information Service, Willa was forecast to “produce life-threatening storm surge, wind and rainfall over portions of west-central and southwestern Mexico.” It said Willa was the third Category 5 hurricane after Hurricane Lane and Walaka this year.
