A heatwave could be set to bake the UK this summer. Brits across the country have been experiencing torrential downpours, with weather warnings for rain issued by the Met Office.

But despite the miserable conditions currently seen, the summer could be a different picture. Weather maps from WX Charts indicate hotter weather could return by early June.

Looking further ahead, meteorologist Nick Finnis said warmer conditions could be back for longer than that. The senior forecaster at NetWeather said there are signals that June, July and August could see 'above average' temperatures.

He said: "For all three summer months, there is a unanimous signal from all models for above average temperatures in most of the UK over June, July and August." Mr Finnis backed a 35C double-heatwave prediction for the summer, saying earlier this month: "Most signals point to a warmer-than-average summer is most likely."

The Met Office said conditions will still be 'changeable' in June, Express reports. But warm sunshine is expected to return some time between June 6 and 20.

It said: "The signal for any meaningful high (or low) pressure regime to become established remains elusive, which suggests that the weather could remain fairly changeable through June, with variations on what this will look like across the country. Signals for both temperature and rainfall indicate a 'more likely above average' overall.

"This suggests that further rain or showers are likely, possibly heavy or thundery at times. As is normal for the time of year there is likely to be some spells of warm sunshine between these showers."
