Knypersley seconds had a father and son combination to thank for seeing them to victory over Moddershall & Oulton in NSSCL Division Four on Sunday.

Knype were set 129 to win by Modd fourths at Tunstall Road - but saw Luke Evans and Cameron Coughlan strike twice to hand the visitors the advantage.

However, the Cumberbatch family rode to the rescue - fittingly on father’s day - to set the home side in the right direction.

Dad Jonathon struck 41 not out and son Dominic chipped in with 31 as Knypersley completed a five-wicket win off the final ball of the game.

Earlier, Moddershall & Oulton fourths had amassed 128-6 from a rain-reduced 35 overs

Rory Housley top-scored with 39, while Annamalai Veerappan added 29. Toby Fallows took 3-23 for Knype and there were a couple of wickets for Lee Fallows.

Ashcombe Park seconds swept to a nine-wicket triumph at home against Church Eaton.

Joe Alcock’s 3-19 was backed up by doubles from Keith Hallam and Grant Roberts as Church Eaton were bundled out for just 80.

Toby Horton (12) made the biggest contribution, while Gareth Stratford and Sam Whitehouse both made 11 and Will Ross weighed in with 10.

Ashcombe Park required just 13 overs to knock off the runs as Rich Knott made 29 and Steve Proffitt walked off unbeaten on 42.

Kidsgrove banked the points from their meeting with Alsager seconds.

Hassan Haleem anchored Alsager’s innings with 67 as they made their way to 153 all out.

Haleem’s innings contained 10 fours and two sixes, with Haroon Khan (22) and Billy Strong (20) offering fine support.

James Green and Joe Clay finished with 4-30 and 3-18 respectively.

Andrew Cooper (3-32) and a couple of wickets for Stephen Groom helped to reduce Grove to 59-6 in reply.

But Chris Highfield proved to be the man for the big occasion as he compiled 79 not out.

Highfield hit nine fours and one six in his innings, and with Thusikaran Thurairasa (29) and Callum McIlveen (21no) also impressing, the home side sealed a three-wicket success.

Oakamoor seconds made home advantage count to see off the challenge of Little Stoke 2nd XI.

James Mason struck seven fours and four sixes in his unbeaten 63 to guide Oakamoor to 150-7.

Dan James added 33 and Will Leeson contributed 21. Sohail Hussain took 3-11.

James Murphy (49) top-scored in Little Stoke’s reply, but they were skittled for 92.

Edward Brookes was the chief destroyer with 5-14, allied to double strikes from Harry Smith and Mason.

Eccleshall seconds cruised to the points at Sandon.

Karl Mason’s 75, which contained eight fours, was backed up by Tom Hibbert (44), Jonathan Bramall (29) and Jordan Beasley (23) as Eccleshall amassed 230-7 from thir 40 overs.

Steve Greatholder, Sajith Fernando and David Nash all claimed two wickets.

Nash made 54, including six fours and one maximum, in Sandon’s post-tea reply.

However, Sandon were limited to 137-8 as Beasley, Bramall and Jonny Rawsthorne struck twice apiece.

Silverdale seconds won on their visit to Woore.

Gareth Metcalfe (26), Richard Redman (25no), Jacob McIntyre (22) and Glynn Moore (21no) impressed in Dale’s 149-6. Andrew Burton took 4-12.

Daniel Manning responded with 22, but McIntyre’s 5-17 and 3-16 from William Shenton, saw Woore close on 97-9.

In Saturday’s matches, Church Eaton won at home against Alsager seconds.

Robert Hogarth made 73 as Church Eaton compiled 169-8 from their allocation.

His innings contained three fours and six sixes, while Daniel Hughes and Gareth Stratford both weighed in with 25. Richard Steel took 3-53.

Lewis Pickford (34), Hassan Haleem (29) and Joshua Khan (27) pushed Grove close after the interval.

But Adrian Melbourn’s fine haul of 6-17 saw Alsager all out for 141.

Kidsgrove defeated Oakamoor seconds by six wickets.

Oakamoor posted 79-4 from a rain-reduced 14 overs as Gary Wright made 28.

Grove crossed the line inside 11 overs as Kane Lowton and Simon Lightfoot chipped in with 25 not out and 20 respectively.

Little Stoke seconds posted 186 all out at Sandon before bowling their hosts out for 101.

Moddershall & Oulton fourths were 84-7 at Ashcombe Park before match game was abandoned.

The matches between Eccleshall and Silverdale and Woore and Knypersley were called off without a ball being bowled.
