Weekend review of all the NSSCL Division Two matches

Dan Amos bagged a hat-trick on his way to remarkable figures as Checkley seconds defeated Wedgwood in NSSCL Division Two on Sunday.

Spinner Amos helped himself to 7-10 as Wedgwood collapsed to 61 all out as they pursued their hosts’ 238-9.

Tom Smith top-scored with 30, with Usman Saleem chipping in with 13.

But Amos’ stunning haul, plus a couple of wickets for Jack Farrington, left the visitors well beaten.

Earlier in the day, half-centuries from Peter Appleboam and Josh Hewitt helped Checkley to their imposing total.

Appleboam blazed seven fours and five sixes in his unbeaten 72, with Hewitt’s 63 featuring five boundaries and two sixes.

Matthew Woodford weighed in with 27, while Leon Pedley scooped 3-49 and there were a couple of wickets apiece for Ellis Roberts and Ramzan Mohammed.

Crewe eased to a nine-wicket success on their trip to Stafford.

Hosts Stafford were limited to 118 all out as Ollie Jarvis claimed 5-18.

There were also double strikes from Faisal Mahmood and Haveesh Alluri, while Fraser Noack’s 58 was the main contribution to the county town’s side batting effort.

That target proved to be a walk in the park for Crewe, who needed just 17.1 overs to cross the line.

Lewis Bacon top-scored with 51 not out, which contained seven fours, with support coming from Ben Jarvis (36) and Ollie Jarvis (25no).

Moddershall & Oulton seconds were clinical in sweeping aside their Longton counterparts.

Longton crumbled to 64 all out - in which Ben Green made 17 - as Dan Colclough took 3-5.

Joe Mason then compiled an unbeaten 35 to steer the Modd men to a 10-wicket triumph.

It turned out to be a club double for Moddershall & Oulton as their thirds won at home against Audley 2nd XI.

A first-wicket stand of 104 between Joshua Rhodes and Charles Birkin helped Audley to 159 all out.

Rhodes’ 63 featured six fours and two sixes, with Birkin weighing in with 37.

Sadeeptha Jayathilaka captured 5-32 for the Modd hosts.

Niall Redman struck twice for Audley on the resumption, but Moddershall & Oulton secured a six-wicket success inside 27 overs.

Ravi Lindamulage (36), Danuka Tennakoon (28) and Madeesha Eliyadura (27no) led the home side across the line.

Sandyford emerged victorious from a high-scoring contest at Meakins seconds. Sandyford took first use and amassed 247-9 from their 40 overs.

New Zealander Jamie Oakley underpinned thir innings with 97, which included eight fours and seven sixes.

Mitchell Underwood (49) and Ben Turnock (32) were also in impressive form.

Simon Baker and Tariq Mughal scooped 4-29 and 3-43 respectively.

Meakins came close to pulling off a fine chase, but were eventually bowled out for 239 with 13 balls remaining.

Mughal hit six sixes in his 52, Dan Cumming compiled 41 and there were also handy efforts from Baker (28), Josh Clayton (23) and Tas Hussain (21).

But Rory Smith’s 3-43, plus doubles from Gareth Kinsey and Kieron McKinney, saw Sandyford to the points.

Little Stoke won by two wickets at home against Elworth seconds.

Arris Ziad (4-30) and Wasim Ahmed (3-29) joined forces to dismiss Elworth for 118. Kieran Allsop top-scored with 31.

Mike Holt and Jams Holt shared four wickets after tea, but James Ecclestone’s 37 prove to be the difference.

In Saturday’s matches, Meakins seconds won by three wickets at Longton.

Three wickets apiece from Dan Cumming (3-24) and Tas Hussain (3-26) left Longton all out for 101, despite Brodie Mack’s 28, Aston Mack’s 22 and 21 from Elliot Wright.

Lee Ridgway (3-8) helped to reduce Meakins to 45-7 in their reply.

But Cumming’s 32 not out and an unbeaten 22 from Martin Lawton, led Meakins to their target.

Moddershall & Oulton thirds took the points at home against Stafford.

Stafford amassed 204-7 declared as Anas Patel made 61 and Ashley Lunn added 57. Sadeeptha Jayathilaka took 4-50.

The Modd men batted superbly after the interval to win by two wickets.

Dinesh Cooray’s 63 was backed up by Shameera Weerasinghe (40no), Madeesha Eliyadura (36) and Danuka Tennakoon (32) in a fine batting effort. Rob James took 3-24.

Moddershall & Oulton seconds defeated Elworth by eight wickets after being set 66 for victory.

The matches between Checkley and Sandyford, Little Stoke and Crewe and Wedgwood and Audley were abandoned at various stages due to the weather.
