'I went to the City of London's best pub and the roast was just as good as my mum's'

I went to the City of London's best pub for a roast dinner and it was one of the best I have eaten out. Roasts are hard to master, and nobody can quite nail them like your mum.

So, I am always a little apprehensive when going out for a Sunday lunch. Will the potatoes be crispy enough; will there be enough gravy; will the veg be cooked right?

I went to Mr. Fogg's City Tavern and the answer was yes across the board. As soon as you enter the Broadgate Circle haunt you are greeted with an eccentric and traditional interior.

It is a Victorian-style tavern that serves draught beers, punches, and expertly crafted cocktails as well as 'traditional British pub grub'. And much like the décor the food was also a feast for the eyes.

There are only three roast options, two being chicken, but they were cooked to perfection. I ordered the lamb (£22) whilst my friend went for the jerk chicken (£19), a roast with a twist.

Both plates arrived at the table jam-packed and looking spectacular; matching the vibe of the bar. The lamb was very tender and the potatoes were just as good as my mum's: crispy on the outside but soft and fluffy on the inside. There was not a soggy vegetable in sight.

And there were plenty on offer, as it came with red and white cabbage, carrots, and - my personal favourite - tender stem broccoli. The star of the show had to be the gravy, it was thick and rich, what dreams are made of.

The plate was piled up but that didn't impact the quality. If you do have any room, I would highly recommend getting a dessert.

I don't have much of a sweet tooth but these puddings were the perfect end to a delicious meal. The homemade chocolate and cookie dough brownie (£8.50) was intense and gooey.

The crumble also hit the spot, with a crunchy top and soft apple centre. The only thing to note is that the custard comes cold, but it was still scrumptious.

They were a glorious end to an overall high-standard meal. The drinks were also on par with the quality food. I ordered the fruity knuckle cruncher that consisted of gin, Chambord, cloudy apple juice and blueberry puree and it was an ideal mix of fruity and sweet without being sickly. If you are looking for a Sunday spot in central London, this is one to add to the list.
