I went to new waterfront attraction and the experience made me cry

If somebody asked you to name five of the most well known artists in the world, I would assume that Vincent Van Gogh would make that list.

Despite not being appreciated when he was alive, Van Gogh is now one of the most famous artists to ever live. He had a unique way of painting that has now become well known to art lovers and others alike.

And luckily for Liverpool, an immersive exhibition celebrating his work is open to the public.

The Exhibition Centre, which has housed Comic Con and the Labour Conference, is now hosting Beyond Van Gogh, which is a gigantic immersive exhibition where his paintings come to life on the surfaces of the space.

The exhibition shows off more than 300 masterpieces including two of Vincent’s most recognisable pieces, The Starry Night and Sunflowers. Beyond Van Gogh also utilises music to create an incredible display of art and emotion.

I didn’t expect it to be such a huge space that was taken up by Van Gogh’s work. When walking around it, watching as the pictures changed and evolved into different paintings, I actually found myself filling up.

I wasn't just crying because of the gorgeous visuals before me - I found myself feeling melancholy thinking of Vincent Van Gogh himself.

Van Gogh was not appreciated by the populous when he was alive, and he came to a tragic end aged only 37 in July of 1890. It was only after he died that the world realised just how unique and talented he was, and seeing his life spread open on the walls of the Exhibition Centre, I definitely felt a few tears.

However, I know that if he was able to see the beautiful work that the Beyond Van Gogh team have done to bring his work into the 21st Century, he would be amazed. I already want to go back to Beyond Van Gogh as soon as I can to experience it all again.

Beyond Van Gogh is running until July 6 and tickets start at £13.20/ Click here for more information. Don't miss the biggest and breaking stories by signing up to the Echo Daily newsletter here.
