Wes Anderson has unveiled a first-look movie poster for his upcoming animated feature Isle of Dogs.

The film will be released in US cinemas on April 20, 2018, although a UK launch date has yet to be confirmed.

Isle of Dogs is set in Japan and follows a boy's journey to find his lost dog.

The poster features a bunch of canines gathered together – some of them in clothing – suggesting that title is very much a reality and we appear to be dealing with some sort of... isle of dogs.

There's also a figure standing in the centre of the piece attached to a parachute, and what looks to be (the wreckage of?) a plane in the right-hand corner, so it seems a safe bet to assume this could be the boy on his search.

Last year, the Grand Budapest Hotel director dropped a video to announce the star-studded cast for the picture... which even includes the late John Lennon's wife Yoko Ono.

Scarlett Johansson, Bill Murray, Ed Norton, Bob Balaban, Tilda Swinton, Frances McDormand, Bryan Cranston, Jeff Goldblum, Greta Gerwig, F Murray Abraham, Harvey Keitel, Akira Ito, Akira Takayama, Koyu Rankin, Courtney B Vance and Liev Schreiber also star.

So yes, it's pretty much the Avengers of dog-based indie animations.

Isle of Dogs will be in cinemas in the US on April 20, 2018.
