West Ham 'enquire' about Callum Wilson in Newcastle United plot twist after Calvert-Lewin link

Newcastle United are facing a big decision on striker Callum Wilson in the next few days with the number 9 potentially heading for the exit if the Magpies make progress with talks on Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Chronicle Live understands that West Ham have made enquiries to sign Wilson in a cash deal and the next few days could be key for the star who is two goals shy of a half century for the Toon. The England international does not want to leave St James' Park but a switch to the Hammers would keep him in the Premier League and under the watch of the Three Lions ahead of the World Cup qualifiers for 2026.

Wilson posted pictures of himself on his X profile in the doorway of a luxury hotel complex on Friday night.

Whether he is about to walk through the exit door for good at Newcastle remains to be seen. Wilson stated at the end of last term that he intended to return when commenting: "I'm contracted to Newcastle still, I'll be back for pre-season."

Wilson is valued at around £18million by Newcastle and has just one year left of his current deal. Julen Lopetegui has just taken the job at the London Stadium. Wilson was wanted by Atletico Madrid on loan last January but the move did not materialise and the La Liga club have not followed up interest this summer.
