Aston Villa have reportedly hit a snag in their attempts to wrap up a first piece of business of the summer 2024 transfer window.

Villa have been highly active in the opening days of transfer activity, aiming to organise a number of outgoings. The most anticipated of those is perhaps the sale of key midfielder Douglas Luiz to Juventus.

But according to The Telegraph, Weston McKennie's failure to agree to any exit terms with Juventus has so far stalled progress made in other areas. If this continues to be the case, the door could allegedly open for rivals Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur - both reportedly holding long-standing interest in the 25-year-old - to swoop.

So far it is believed the clubs are happy on a set £20m fee, Luiz has agreed a contract in Turin, plus the other player involved in the swap - Samuel Iling-Junior - is content with the terms of his move to Villa Park. That just leaves the US international to complete his end of the bargain, though Fabrizio Romano and others report it is his exit terms requiring agreement with Juve that are causing grief.

Most importantly for Villa, at this stage the deal reportedly remains on and negotiations continue in order to find a swift resolution. Whether or not it would survive without McKennie's inclusion - whether that be by means of a greater sum of cash or an alternative swap offered - remains to be seen.

McKennie and Luiz are both currently in the process of warming up for this summer's Copa America tournament in the United States, which gets underway on Friday. The Juve midfielder's nation face Uruguay, Bolivia and Panama in the group stages, while Villa's No.6 and his Brazil team-mates take on Colombia, Paraguay and Costa Rica.
