Wetherspoons hikes pints to £7.40 and customers say it's a 'kick in the teeth'

Wetherspoons has once again raised its prices, with the cost of a pint reaching a staggering £7.40 at certain locations.

The popular pub chain's airport outlets have seen beer prices soar to as much as £7.40. The price for a pint at airport Wetherspoons has jumped by up to 30p, which is an increase of around four per cent.

In February, travellers were shelling out £7.10 for their pints at major transport hubs like Gatwick, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Heathrow, and Stansted. Now, Wetherspoon's has pushed the price of a pint of Leffe to £7.40,

Other premium beers such as Brewdog Punk IPA and Innis and Gunn Lager (only available in Edinburgh) are also hitting wallets hard at £7.05, as reported by the Sun newspaper amidst the peak summer travel season.

Regular Wetherspoon's customer Kev McMahon, 46, from Waltham Abbey, Herts, expressed his frustration: "We scrimped and saved to afford a holiday so to be hit in the pocket with these soaring pint prices at the airport is a real kick in the teeth. Hopefully things will be cheaper when we get abroad because they're certainly not here."

Rebecca Lockwood, 44, from Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands, lamented the loss of affordable airport drinks: "You used to be guaranteed a bargain beer when you went to a 'Spoons - even at the airport - but it seems that's all a thing of the past now", BirminghamLive reports.

Independent consumer expert Martyn James highlighted the impact of the price hike on holidaymakers: "For many people, a cheeky pint at the airport marks the very beginning of your hard earned holiday. Yet a nasty surprise awaits holidaymakers airside as pints hit London prices."

James remarked: "Bars need to remember that just because we're a captive audience at the airport, we won't forget blatant overcharging."

Meanwhile, Wetherspoons maintains its presence across the nation, with several establishments in Birmingham, including those in the city centre.
