Your View: How could govt have eased migrant worker crisis?
With the fear of COVID-19 looming large and without money, thousands of poor migrant workers in Delhi and other places are rushing back to their villages despite the 21-day nationwide lockdown in India.
All forms of public transport — trains, buses, tempos and cars — having come to a grinding halt, forcing the helpless migrant workers to walk hundreds of miles without food or water.
The government is being slammed over the lack of planning ahead of the coronavirus shutdown. In his weekly radio address ‘Mann Ki Baat’ Prime Minister Narendra Modi apologised for the impact of the lockdown and especially sought forgiveness of the poor.
What do you think the government should have done to ensure safe movement of migrant workers? Do you think the lockdown could’ve been planned better?
