Where to find Leicestershire's cheapest petrol and diesel this weekend
Loughborough is the new home to the cheapest petrol in Leicestershire, for this week at least. The findings come in the latest data from petrol suppliers which showed that as of today - Friday, April 19 - the Sainsbury's garage in Loughborough’s Greenclose Lane is the least expensive of all, currently charging drivers 144.9p per litre. This means it would cost £79.70 to fill up an average 55 litre tank.
The data, which is based on a feed of live petrol prices which was set up by the government's Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) last September, brings to an end Hinckley’s latest stay at the top of the cheapest fuel leaderboard. Its Applegreen forecourts in Watling Street and Coventry Road both remain in the top 10, but are nearly 2p per litre more expensive than in Loughborough.

The latest figures show continued price rises across Leicestershire. This week, the UK average for petrol at the pumps is 149.2p per litre, with county-based motorists forking out 0.4p per litre more.
The CMA says it continues to be concerned about rising fuel prices. Dan Turnbull, senior director of markets at the CMA, said: “Drivers are feeling the pinch as fuel prices have been edging up since January. We’re particularly concerned by high margins which indicate weakened competition and are not a good sign for drivers.”
