Where is The Tourist season 2 filmed? Two Brothers/Steffan Hill - BBC

Jamie Dornan is back on our screens as Elliot Stanley (or should we say Elliot Cassidy) in the second series ofThe Tourist, which landed on iPlayer in full on New Year's Day. As well as the new story pulling us into his dark and complicated family history, viewers have also been gushing over the beautiful scenery, and wondering where the second season is set.

The Tourist season one took us all the way to the Australian outback, where Elliot woke up from a car accident with no memory of who he was and where he'd come from. His desire to learn about his background takes him and Helen Chambers (played by Danielle Macdonald) back to his motherland of Ireland in season two, where he's quickly confronted by friends and foes.

But where was The Tourist season 2 actually filmed?

Luggala Estate in County Wicklow

When Helen and Elliot first arrive in Ireland, they're waiting by a beautiful lake at a cafe for someone who he thinks is a friend. Little do they know, it's actually a rival family, who kidnap Elliot in the back of a van, and take him to a remote island (which we don't actually think is real, FYI.)

This was actually filmed on the Luggala Estate in Wicklow (south of Dublin down the coast of Ireland), which is the same place the Prime Video show Vikings was filmed.

"Most of the locations we filmed in, or I filmed in, have been the Wicklow Mountains. They were incredible," Mark McKenna, who played Fergal said of filming there. "Where the cafe is, that’s a Vikings set. Everyone kept telling us, the drivers and everyone. I felt like they were a bit disappointed that we weren’t in Vikings… that was the impression. It was properly beautiful. You don’t have to go too far in Ireland to find a beautiful spot."

Kilpedder in County Wicklow

Jamie revealed the forest scenes were also filmed in Wicklow, addin, " It's amazing. The first day of shooting we were in Kilpedder in Wicklow, and I was walking through the trees and the worst rain I think I've ever seen came in and I thought, this is what it's like to film in Ireland. I had sort of forgotten it being three or four years since I filmed here but Ireland is beautiful. I've been to parts of Ireland that I'd never been to before."

Danielle added, "My favourite location was where we filmed by a lighthouse in Wicklow, on Wicklow Beach. There were three lighthouses there, and I couldn't figure out why there were three. I then found out one was built and couldn’t be seen by the ocean, so then they built another one and accidentally did the same thing. So, then they built a third, which I just thought was hilarious. There were also wild horses running around set. It was just so stunningly beautiful."

Dublin

The more city-based scenes in The Tourist season two were filmed in Dublin, the capital of the republic of Ireland. When announcing the series, the BBC revealed, "The second season of the UK’s most watched drama of 2022, The Tourist, is confirmed to start shooting in Dublin, Ireland this April [2023]."

Kilbeggan whiskey distillery

Francis Magee, who played Frank McDonnell, revealed the family whiskey distillery scenes were actually filmed at Westmeath in Ireland, which is where the real Kilbeggan whiskey is made. "My favourite location so far on this has been outside of Dublin, at the distillery where they make Kilbeggan whiskey," he told the BBC. "There is all this old machinery, that kind of Heath Robinson kind of pipes and steam, and the smells of the old whiskey is great."
