#WheresTheresa: People on Twitter are wondering where the PM is during the election campaign

There’s a general election in June, but many voters aren’t sure if the prime minister is aware of it.

Critics of Theresa May have taken to Twitter to lambast her recent public appearances – or, rather, the lack of them.

The Conservative leader has been rather conspicuous by her absence on the campaign trail in the past week or so, while her Labour competitor, Jeremy Corbyn, has been doing the media rounds.

The prime minister had already been criticised for her refusal to take part in any television debates ahead of the election on June 8.

And in the past week she has been spotted at only a small handful of events, many of which took place behind closed doors.

She has to yet to give a full wide-ranging broadcast interview and has been forced to issue denials about Tory plans to raise taxes.

Mr Corbyn, meanwhile, has attended a number of public speaking engagements and been interviewed on the BBC.

As a result, critics of Mrs May have started brandishing the hashtag #WheresTheresa across Twitter.

And on a rare venture out into public, Mrs May got an earful from a voter who was annoyed about her walking towards his freshly cut lawn.

Graham Mills, 73, from Sedgley, Dudley, in the West Midlands, told the Express & Star he was ’really disappointed’ with her performance when she called at his home on Saturday.

‘I was cutting my grass at the time when I saw a load of cars pull up and she came towards me,’ he said.

‘First of all she asked if she could walk across my lawn and I said no, not really, I have just cut it.

‘I started by asking her why she would not debate the other leaders on the TV and she said, “Well, we meet every Wednesday”, and I said that is hardly an answer and asked if she thought she owed it to the public.

‘Again I did not really get an answer.’
