White Helmet Rescuers Injured in Airstrike on Idlib Town

The Syrian Civil Defense in Idlib province reported on September 23 that an airstrike had targeted a rescue crew in the town of Tal Markidh, south of Saraqib, injuring four members and destroying one of their vehicles.

The group, also known as the White Helmets, said they were responding to the scene of an airstrike when the same location was fired upon again. This video, shot by a head camera worn by one of the White Helmets, shows rescue crews in a rural area helping to pull people alive out of rubble. The video then cuts to show members of the group running before throwing themselves on the ground as the sound of an airstrike is heard. As they turn around to check where the strike hit, a member of the group is found, seemingly injured, on the ground. They remove him and place him on a stretcher inside a Syrian Civil Defense vehicle.

The group said 14 air raids had been carried out on the town which had killed 10 people and wounded at least 45. However, these numbers have not been independently verified.

Other local reports said most of those killed in the strikes were members of Sham Legion, a coalition of rebel groups that operates in Idlib province. Credit: Syrian Civil Defense in Idlib via Storyful
