Whiteabbey crash sees two people taken to hospital by ambulance

Two people have been taken to hospital by ambulance following a crash in the Newtownabbey area.

The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service said they received an emergency call at 11.14am on Tuesday, April 30, following reports of a crash in the Shore Road area of Whiteabbey.

They dispatched three emergency crews, an Ambulance Officer and one Rapid Response Paramedic to the incident.

In a statement, the NIAS added: "Following initial assessment and treatment at the scene, two patients were taken to Royal Victoria Hospital by Ambulance."

The crash took place at the junction of the Glenville Road and Shore Road, in a spot that has become known locally as an accident hot spot. It's understood that two cars were involved in the collision, and the scene has now been cleared.

In a statement issued on Tuesday afternoon, a PSNI spokesperson said: "Motorists are advised of traffic disruption on the Shore Road in Newtownabbey at the junction with Glenville Road due to a road traffic collision.

"Traffic is down to one lane heading towards Carrickfergus and one lane towards Belfast. Drivers are advised to avoid the area."
