Last night, Prince William presented the third annual Earthshot Prize in Singapore, his initiative to "discover, spotlight and help grow innovative solutions that are working to repair and regenerate our planet."

However, one noticeable face absent from the entire ceremony - which has also been dubbed as the 'Eco Oscars' - was William's wife and sidekick, Kate Middleton. For the last two years, the Princess of Wales has been a staple figure amongst the attendees, walking the green carpet with her husband in London and Boston. Only this year, William appeared solo, which led many fans to question where Kate was.

It didn't take him long to explain his wife's no-show though, and shared that she had decided to stay home for the most relatable reason. "Catherine is very sorry she can't be here. She is helping George through his first set of major exams," William revealed.

For those who missed it, Kensington Palace did previously confirm that Kate's mum duties would clash with the Earthshot Prize, however, they didn't disclose what exams the future King would be taking.

But due to George being spotted touring Eton earlier in the spring, and the fact that he's in year six - the last year of primary school, it's not hard to put two and two together. Especially as it's well-known that Eton College requires prospective students to take an exam during their year six autumn term. So, it looks as though he'll be following in the footsteps of his dad and uncle Prince Harry, who are both alumni of the prestigious institution.

Elsewhere in Kate's Earthshot Prize absence, the royal couple have also shared in recent months that they ensure that one parent is at home with their kids, George, plus Princess Charlotte, eight, and Prince Louis, five, at all times. Whether it's to help with homework and exam prep or just to be present for their children, this further explains Kate's choice to stay put.

The Earthshot Prize will air on BBC One on Sunday 12 November at 5.20pm.
