Never Have I Ever spoilers follow.

In Never Have I Ever, no one rooted harder for team Paxton (Darren Barnet) than Devi (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan) when she propositioned him for sex after swim practice.

Many quickly jumped on the bandwagon after he took off his shirt and proved to be fiercely protective over his sister (both separated events). The love for Paxton Yoshida-Hall was strong.

That was until Devi's adversary Ben Gross (Jaren Lewison) provided the ultimate gesture by chauffeuring Devi to her mother's side so that they could reconcile and spread her father's ashes together. What a gentleman.

Over the seasons, fans have flip-flopped between the two suitors with each, though still flawed, becoming more and more charming.

Ultimately, as these things go, lines were drawn and camps erected as fans devotedly picked sides. Team Daxton or team Benvi.

Now as the show hurtles towards the end, with the upcoming fourth season being its last, the shippers are desperate for an answer.

Ahead of the season four release, co-showrunner Lang Fisher stoked the flames when she teased an upsetting ending, jokingly stating: "Hopefully no one keys my car."

Off the back of her words many fans have predicted a "dissatisfying" end to the Paxton- Devi-Ben tug of war, which they now believe will see Devi opt to be alone.

One Reddit user wrote: "Starting to get the feeling it's going to have an ending where she just chooses herself. Which would make sense and show the development of the character but would be a little unsatisfying!"

A fellow fan agreed: "I call them 'better off endings'. Everyone is better off, but they are disappointing and I'm not a fan!"

Another stated: "That's a cop out. If you have a triangle and market your show as 'team A or team B, which one are you???', you need to have a clear resolution and winner. This is the thing that attracted most of the fans."

Even Twitter joined the discourse with one fan saying:

Devi choosing singlehood to depict character growth may seem like a clichéd plot device on the surface, it couldn't be further from the truth.

On this occasion her choosing self-love would feel right, authentic even.

Devi has been clinging on to her romantic conquests as a way of escaping the grief she felt over losing her father.

The distraction has provided her just that, a distraction from her pain, comfort when that pain was unavoidable and has been the pseudo confidence boost when she felt low. A replacement for the reassurance her father used to provide her.

As she enters into her senior year and learns to live with the feeling of loss, she can shed her reliance on external factors.

Would that mean her feelings for either guy wasn't real? Absolutely not, but maybe they were only meant to help shape each other on their adolescent journeys.

However, we doubt that those determined to see a match will have to worry about this outcome, especially the Ben diehards.

It had seemed as though the pendulum had finally swung in his direction when Devi chose to lose her virginity to him in the season-three finale.

However, there's still hope for both Benvi and team Paxton, as Ramakrishnan admitted during an exclusive interview with Digital Spy last year that her decision to sleep with Ben was more of a win for team Devi than anyone else.

Despite the deep concern for the fate of Devi's love life, Fisher did hint that a choice between the two will in fact be made.

"I think there's gonna be a subset of people who are disappointed because, you know, the love triangle comes to an end and decisions are made," Fisher told us.

"But I hope that we did it in a way that even people who may have lost in some sense, feel like they won. I think we did a good job."

She further implied an either/or (not neither) outcome when she added: "I do think it was funny because our Netflix execs had picked sides, and there was like a 50/50, and when we told them what we're gonna do, some of them were disappointed.

"But then when they saw the season, they were like, 'We agree, we agree, and it's good,' and so that's what I hope [happens] for fans when they watch."

Never Have I Ever seasons 1-3 are available to watch on Netflix. Season 4 will debut June 8.
