Why St Mirren was fairest Rangers fixture flip option as Kenny Miller flags Kilmarnock controversy kicker

Kenny Miller reckons St Mirren was the ONLY post split fixture flip for Rangers that kept the title race fair.

The SPFL announced the final five Premiership fixtures for the top and bottom six. And the standout is the likely title decider at Parkhead when Gers head across Glasgow to face Celtic on Saturday May 11. But every point is likely to count during the run in, which means there will be plenty of scrutiny on the other four encounters against Hearts, Kilmarnock, St Mirren and Dundee respectively.

With the Ibrox club needing another three away games to ensure an even split with home fixtures, they were always going to have to make a third trip to either Killie, the Buddies or Dens. Given they're only managing to get their second trip to Tayside played at the third attempt, that was never likely to be an option. Both sides of the Old Firm have already lost at Rugby Park this season, so altering either's venue to face Killie would have been controversial.

When one Clyde Super Scoreboard caller queried why Philippe Clement's men where being sent to Paisley again, Miller felt the league beaks were left with no option given the alternatives.

He replied: "It's straightforward isn't it? You've got to play 19 games at home and 19 games away. With Dundee, Kilmarnock and St Mirren, Rangers have played them all away twice already. But that means they've had 17 games at home and 16 away so that needs to be levelled up.

"To be fair, that was probably the only way it was going to work. For me, you couldn't take Rangers back to Kilmarnock, but you also couldn't take that trip to Kilmarnock away from Celtic. And with the whole fiasco with Dundee's pitch, you probably couldn't actually involve them in it either.

"So St Mirren was the only one it needed to be. I understand what the caller is saying, but they had to have an extra game and I think St Mirren is the fairest one."
