Why Tesco is making a major change to its yellow sticker reduced items

With the cost of living crisis continuing to affect UK households, Tesco has made it even easier to find its reduced items.

Tesco is bringing in a change at hundreds of stores to make it easier than ever for shoppers to find its reduced yellow-sticker bargains.

Checking out the reduced aisle is one of many ways you can knock the pounds off your grocery shopping bill, which is more important than ever as families across the country continue to face a cost of living crisis.

However, if you're in a hurry it can be easy to miss the reduced items, particularly if you're in one of the bigger supermarkets.

To make it as easy as possible for shoppers to save money and help reduce food waste, Tesco has put up new signage to highlight discounts as clearly as possible, and also to make them look more appealing.

The new signs, reading "reduced in price, just as nice", are up in just under 300 stores already, with plans to introduce them to more outlets in the future.

It comes after a survey found shoppers would be more likely to search for marked-down products if the reduced section looked more presentable, the Mirror reports.

The Tesco Extra in Hatfield, Hertfordshire, was the first to feature the new system in October last year, with the store's manager Michelle Mulholland saying the signage had an "immediate effect".

"We are seeing more people wishing to buy from our reductions area, particularly on fresh food, meaning there are far fewer items left at the end of an evening," she added.

A YouGov survey commissioned by the supermarket giant last year found 69% of shoppers were actively looking for discounted items, while 33% were doing so more often.

Tesco chief customer officer Alessandra Bellini said: "We want customers to spend less at Tesco, and our ‘reduced in price’ sections in stores now offer the reassurance that these products are just as nice and are another reminder there's great value to be found on every aisle at Tesco."

Tesco Group quality, technical and sustainability director Claire Lorains added: "At Tesco we have no time for food waste and we do everything we can to reduce it.

"Our customers are always on the lookout for great value food, and our rebranded ‘reduced in price, just as nice’ signage makes it easier than ever to spot a short-dated and top-quality bargain."
