Home improvement retailer Wickes has opened a new store in Durham which will bring 30 jobs to St Andrews Retail Park.

To celebrate, the store is offering customers a 15% discount from May 24-26.

The new development was officially opened by the Mayor Coun Lesley Mavin, and Mayoress Trish Sutcliffe, along with cricketers from Durham County Cricket Club, on Friday. The new 20,360 square foot space will offer a range of home improvement products for both trade professionals and customers looking to improve their own homes.

With a spacious showroom, the store will feature a selection of new kitchens and a bathroom centre with new room sets to suit every budget, helping customers to plan their dream home. In addition, customers can utilise the free design service, with advice from the store's Design Consultants, alongside the trusted installation service.

The store also includes a paint mixing station, an outdoor project centre, five disabled parking spaces and three dedicated 30-minute Click & Collect spaces, to make it accessible for all customers. Local shoppers can also benefit from free delivery directly from the store to surrounding areas, on orders over £85.

Wickes chief property and services officer Sarah Taitt, said: "As a digitally led, service-enabled retailer, we are thrilled to be opening a new Wickes store in Durham. The new store will offer residents of Durham and the surrounding areas a wide range of home improvement products, services, and expert advice from our knowledgeable staff, and we look forward to meeting our new customers."

The new store will also bring the Wickes Community Programme to the area, offering non-profit groups access to donations of tools and materials, in order to help improve local spaces. As part of the programme, the Durham store has already committed to helping projects in the local area, including Lumley Infant and Nursery School, to improve their outdoor space.

The new store is located at Unit 6, St. Andrews Park. It is open from Monday to Friday: 7am-8pm, Saturday: 7am-7pm and Sunday: 10am-4pm.
