Wilfried Gnonto next club with Leeds United transfer verdict
It was the unwanted transfer story which dominated the early weeks of last season for Leeds United, Wilfried Gnonto's decision to not play for the club as he tried to force a move away from Elland Road. Serie A clubs were circling for a loan deal, Everton wanted to get a permanent switch done for close to £25m but Leeds were standing firm on a £30m asking price and the hope the player would stay if that total was not reached.
That hope became reality once Gnonto changed his stance, re-joined the squad and the transfer window closed, with the Italian setting about trying to win over the Leeds faithful. A year later and we're in for a repeat of the Gnonto story once again, with a number of clubs being linked with the 20-year-old.
The 13-capped Italian international has big aspirations and knows a move away can aid his chances on the international stage. According to Italian publication CalcioMercato, Gnonto is keen on a switch to Serie A this summer in a big to put himself firmly back into contention for the national team having being dropped from Luciano Spalletti’s squad for the forthcoming European Championships and not even making the 30-man long list.
