Wilfried Zaha asks to leave Crystal Palace after rejecting new contract as Tottenham, Everton and Dortmund circle

Wilfried Zaha has rocked Crystal Palace after indicating for the first time that he wants to leave Selhurst Park.

The 25-year-old has rejected the offer of a new £125,000-a-week contract and Standard Sport understands he has made it clear to the club that he wants to play Champions League football.

Tottenham and Borussia Dortmund are interested in Zaha, while Everton have also been weighing up a move for the winger this summer.

Palace are adamant they do not want to sell Zaha, but the Eagles now face a major fight to keep hold of a player they value at around £70million.

Zaha has four years remaining on his current contract, worth around £100,000-a-week, which puts Palace in a strong negotiating position.

The Ivory Coast international has previously said he was happy at the club but his position has changed over the summer and there are now serious doubts over his future at the south London club.

Palace manager Roy Hodgson has warned that the club could face another struggle for Premier League survival next season and losing their most influential player would come as a massive blow.

Tottenham coach Mauricio Pochettino has long been an admirer of Zaha, who has ambitions to play at the highest level in Europe, but Spurs cooled their interest when they discovered Palace’s valuation of the player.

Spurs could yet make a bid that includes a player going to Palace in exchange, with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy ready to back Pochettino in the transfer market as the club prepare to move into their new stadium.

Reports in Germany this week suggested Dortmund are prepared to make a player-plus-cash bid that includes former Chelsea midfielder Andre Schurrle.

Everton are keen on Zaha but the fact that he wants to play in the Champions League appears to rule out a potential move to Goodison Park.

Palace have little money to spend in the transfer market and the sale of Zaha, their prized asset who came through the Selhurst Park ranks, would raise funds for Hodgson to strengthen.

But Palace are desperate not to lose such a strong performer. Palace did not claim a single point last season when he was not in the team.

Earlier this week, Zaha was allowed to return home early from Palace’s pre-season tour of Scandinavia to deal with a family matter.

He returned to training at the club’s Beckenham base yesterday and is in contention to play in tomorrow’s friendly against Oxford at the Kassam Stadium.

Palace had offered Zaha a new contract to reward him for his outstanding form last season and that would bring him in line with their top earner, fellow forward Christian Benteke.

But Palace chairman Steve Parish has been left stunned after Zaha indicated he wants to quit Selhurst Park.
