Strictly Come Dancing star Will Mellor has vowed he's done with reality competitions once his time on the series is over.

The Coronation Street actor is currently competing on the latest series of the BBC favourite, and has been fighting to keep his spot alongside pro partner Nancy Xu.

However, Mellor's admitted he struggles with it being a "popularity competition" rather than one based on skill, and as such has no interest in doing a similar series in the future.

"This is it for me. If you're going to do one do the biggest one and I'm glad I've learnt a skill every week," he told The Sun, before comparing it to shows like Big Brother and I'm A Celeb.

"I couldn't sit on a show just waiting to be voted out, I'd rather at least learn a skill and put my hand to something and really get my teeth into it," he said.

"I'm enjoying every minute of it and I don't want to just be in a popularity competition, this will be it for me, I think."

Before even entering the show, Mellor admitted he had fears of injury on the show after badly injuring his knees playing football.

"I'm having to ice [my knees] every night and stuff," he told Digital Spy ahead of the launch show. "If they pop out in the middle of a dance routine live on telly, there's not much I can do because I will just hit the floor, and they do.

"They've popped out while I've been walking down the stairs before now. I can pop it back in, but at that moment, I have no strength in the leg. It's just from football injuries and operations so as long as that stays alright, then whatever will be will be.

"If I get voted out, I'll get voted out but I just want to make it through the journey. I don't want to go out with injury, that'd kill me because I feel like I've not had the experience."

Thankfully, he's managed to keep his injuries at bay for now, and has admitted he's even felt the benefit of his gruelling rehearsal schedule, which has left him feeling healthier than ever.

"'My wife certainly doesn't mind… I look good now!" he told The Mirror.

"I'm 46, I'm not a young man anymore, but I feel the fittest I've felt in years. It's really good," "I might have to fly somewhere hot when this is all over just so I can get my new body out!"

During this weekend's Halloween special, Mellor and Xu hit the dancefloor with a Cha Cha Cha to Tom Jones' 'Mama Told Me Not To Come'.

They scored a respectable 32 for their mummy-inspired spooky routine, landing solidly in the middle of the leaderboard.

While Ellie Taylor and Johannes Radebe scored the top spot with their Hocus Pocus inspired routine, EastEnders star James Bye and Amy Dowden found themselves at the bottom, with only 27 points.
