Will Mellor says BBC rejected 'Two Pints Of Lager' spin-off
Will Mellor has said there are plans for a Two Pints Of Lager And A Packet Of Crisps reboot but that the BBC doesn’t want to “revisit” it.
The sitcom wrapped in 2011 after a decade, and Mellor said there are scripts for a follow up called Two Pints: Last Orders that would be based around his character Gaz and his friend Jonny (Ralf Little).
He has been quoted as telling the Daily Star that the BBC have turned it down so he and creator Susan Nickson will pitch it elsewhere.
“Fans are going mad for it, so we've got the audience,” he said, saying it’s “revamped” and “really funny”.
“It's been brought up to the modern day but Gaz and Johnny are still very old school and sit in the pub talking about pies and beer.
"The BBC said no, they don't want to revisit Two Pints. Now we're going to look for someone else, whether it's another channel, whether it's Britbox or Netflix, because there's a massive audience for this."
The original series started in 2001 and also starred Kathryn Drysdale, Luke Gell, Natalie Casey and Sheridan Smith.
Last summer, Nickson told the podcast Drama School Dropout that she was in talks with the BBC to revive the series.
She said: "So basically what you’ve got, it’s me, Will, Ralf and all three of us are just going, ‘Yeah, we’re here, we’ll do it' and the BBC are going, ‘Ah brilliant, yeah let’s do it' and I’m sort of sat here going, 'OK, when?' and they do, ‘Well, we don’t know'.
"So what we've got is a corporation that has no idea."
