Will Young says he kicked his brother out a week before his suicide

Will Young has revealed that he kicked his brother out of his house a week before he died from suicide.

Young's twin brother Rupert died in July 2020 after a long struggle with addiction and mental health problems and in a new documentary for Channel 4, the pop star is set to reflect on his struggles.

A week before Rupert was found dead under Westminster Bridge, Young had him reported as a trespasser at his London home.

In the documentary, entitled Will Young: Losing My Twin Rupert, the Pop Idol winner confesses that he "had a big moment where I realised I couldn’t save him".

Young also opened up on his brother's final weeks: "At the end, he would be drinking 24 hours a day. You’ve got this monster who’s not moving.

"So, the only thing was to throw him out but also to be aware he might end up killing himself. I was OK with everything I’d done to try to help him."

He also discussed how he had to care for his brother through his addictions: "My day would start. Either he was sick or he would have peed on the sofa, so I’d have to clear that up, then go get more beers and codeine because he was addicted to painkillers."

An inquest into Rupert's death revealed that he had been living with his brother on and off for around three years and had no other friends to speak of. He had also been admitted to hospital four times in the week leading up to his death.

Young also reflects on finding out his brother was dead: "I just feel very grateful that I got 42 years with him. I did everything I could to not let him die."
