William and Kate are "ignoring" public comments about Meghan and Harry

Kate Middleton and Prince William teamed up yesterday for their first joint engagement of 2020. The couple travelled to Bradford in Yorkshire to meet the locals, and visit projects and organisations devoted to promoting community cohesion.

But beyond that, it was also the first public engagement for a senior royal since news broke last week that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle plan to step down as full-time members of the royal family. In a post on Instagram last week - which the royal family had not been aware was coming - the Sussexes explained how they hope to become financially independent, splitting their time between the UK and North America.

To say the announcement caused a furore would be an understatement; it's practically all that's dominated headlines and social media over the past week. So it would be understandable if William and Kate felt some sense of apprehension about speaking to the public at their visit yesterday, just in case the touchy subject came up.

But according to the Sun's royal correspondent, Emily Andrews, if there were any comments or questions about 'the royal crisis' from the crowds, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge had it all completely under control.

In a post on Twitter, Andrews uploaded a video of William and Kate greeting the public. Alongside the footage, she detailed conversations the Cambridges had about where their children were (at school, unsurprisingly). And then, she added this: "And if anyone DID ask about Harry and Meghan they were politely ignored..."

Such professionals.

Being the calm and composed royals that they are, it seems the Duke and Duchess' tactic to avert any awkward Harry-and-Meghan-gate conversations was simply to swerve them. And seemingly, it went without a hitch, because the couple managed to get away without having to give any quotes on 'how they were holding up' amidst all the drama. Nicely done.

One sensitive topic that did come up in conversation during the Bradford visit, however, was Kate Middleton's uterus. According to reports, during a chat with royal fan Josh Macpalce, who told Kate he'd sent her congratulatory cards on the birth of each of her children, the Duchess revealed, "I don't think William wants any more."

So it looks like there's no point holding out for any Kate Middleton pregnancy announcements any time soon. Noted.
