Wilmslow pub reopens with new name after major revamp

A Wilmslow pub has reopened with a new name and look after a major revamp. The Anthology pub, located on Swan Street, has reopened as The Swan Inn after a joint £170,000 investment by pub owner Greene King Pub Partners and its tenants.

The rebranded pub will be operated by local pub operators Lisa Salter and Lee Montgomery, who also run The Dog & Partridge in Didsbury and The Crown in Heaton Moor, Stockport.

The pair have decided to rename The Anthology as The Swan Inn as a nod to the pub’s history as The Swan Hotel, as well as its location on Swan Street.

They intend to bring their recipe for success at their two other pubs to The Swan Inn, which will see the pub provide a comfortable and welcoming experience for the local community. It will achieve this by combining a great menu of pub classics and dishes from around the world, alongside an extensive drinks range, supported by regular entertainment and community events hosted at the pub.

The £170,000 investment in the pub has been used to upgrade it both inside and out, ready for the summer.

Inside, the bar in the pub has been fully upgraded and a new booth seating area created within the pub, which will serve as a dining area for customers who want to enjoy its new food offer.

Outside, the old beer terrace in the pub has been transformed into a full beer garden. The all-new beer garden will provide seating for around 80 people outside, including booth seating, along with TVs making it the place to watch England during the Euros this summer in Wilmslow.

Lisa Salter and Lee Montgomery, licensees of The Swan, said: “We cannot wait to welcome everyone from the community back to what is now ‘The Swan Inn’!

“The investment from both Greene King and us has enabled us to upgrade the pub throughout and we have to say it looks spectacular.

“The history of this pub and its role in the community is important to us, so as a mark of respect to this we felt it was right to rename the pub The Swan Inn.

“We’re particularly excited to host people in the all-new beer garden this summer – especially for the all-important Euros.

“By renaming the pub The Swan Inn, we have given a nod to the history of this site, which is really important to us and the local community.”

John Auld, Business Development Manager for Greene King Pub Partners, said: “Lisa and Lee are great pub operators – their success in the pub trade to date speaks for itself – so I am delighted to be partnering with them to turn The Anthology into The Swan Inn.

“Thanks to the joint £170,000 investment, the pub has been fully upgraded and is now a great spot for a pint, food, entertainment and community events. The pub will pride itself on a warm and friendly service and with the Euros and summer around the corner, I am sure the people of Wilmslow will be making the most of its brilliant new beer garden.”
