Villagers are furious over plans for more than 40 new homes in their area. The plans could see up to 44 new homes being built on land near Bridge Lane in Wimblington.

An outline application was put forward by Fink Developments in May. It includes four two-bedroom homes, 33 three-bedroom homes, and seven homes with four or more bedrooms.

All of these homes would be market housing, with no social, affordable, or starter homes planned for the site. The proposal also includes an area of public open space within the development, 95 parking spaces, and new vehicular access from Bridge Lane.

People living in the area have expressed concerns over the potential impact of sewage and construction traffic. Others have said there is already enough housing in the village.

One person said: "The question is 'When will all this development stop?' Schools, dentists, doctors are all full. Sewage is struggling to cope and yet more and more housing is being agreed. Before any further building these matters should be addressed."

Another added: "There is far too much building of new homes in the village. Bellway are already building 88 homes by Bridge Lane. It seems it is just a case of filling every available field. Green space is being lost at considerable speed."

A third person commented: "Bridge 'Lane' is just that. A supposedly quiet lane with green space, not a housing estate. We all have sewerage issues and smelly drains. The lane struggles to cope with the 30 odd houses down our road as it is."

A design and access statement with the application said: "The dwellings will be laid out in a comprehensive manner around the adoptable and private roadways. Each dwelling will have a road frontage and will benefit from a large private garden area to the rear and at least two external parking spaces.

"Concerns were raised in the pre-application response with regards to the loss of the last remaining green space between Bridge Lane to the north and the open land to the east. These comments have been noted and accordingly, a large area of public open space and lower density development have been included within the eastern aspect of the site.

"It is within walking distance to a plethora of amenities including retail, health, education, and employment. It is also within walking distance to bus stops where future residents will be able to travel further afield."

A decision on the application will be made by Fenland District Council at a later date. To view the plans in full, visit their website, using the reference: F/YR24/0449/O or click here.
