Yahoo News Winning Time cancelled by HBO after two series
There will be no more Winning Time, as HBO has announced the sports drama won't be returning for a third season.
The series on the rise of the Los Angeles Lakers in the 1980s has been axed yesterday (September 17), a month after its season 2 premiere.
Co-creator Max Borenstein confirmed the cancellation in a post on X (formerly known as Twitter), writing: "Not the ending that we had in mind. But nothing but gratitude and love."

Premiered in March 2022, the series stars Quincy Isaiah as Magic Johnson, John C Reilly as then-owner of the LA Lakers Jerry Buss and Adrien Brody as coach Pat Riley.
In the wake of the show's cancellation, executive producer and director Salli Richardson-Whitfield posted a behind-the-scenes snap on Instagram.
"When you give it everything you've got, you can have no regrets," she wrote.
"I hope you enjoy the last episode of @winningtimehbo. I am sure I will do many more hours of TV and hopefully many features in my future, but I can say that at this moment in time I am most proud of the work we did on this masterful show."

Many in the industry shared their thoughts on the cancellation, including The Walking Dead co-creator Robert Kirkman and horror film producer Jason Blum.
"WINNING TIME was the best show on TV this year. By far. Not even close. Hardest cancellation in recent years. Throwing tomatoes in @HBO's direction," Kirkman wrote on X, while Blum commented: "I'm so sad no more Winning Time. It was a great series. I don't even watch basketball and I loved it."
Seasons 1-2 of Winning Time aired on HBO.
