Wisconsin Polling Stations Cleaned and Disinfected Ahead of Elections

A Milwaukee company shared footage on April 6 showing it cleaning and disinfecting a polling station in Wisconsin, the day before voters went to the polls.

The primary in Wisconsin went ahead as planned on April 7, despite the coronavirus pandemic, after the US Supreme Court reversed a ruling that would have allowed voters an extra six days to return their ballots.

One cleaning company, Interior Environmental Management (IEM), was contracted to disinfect two polling stations in Milwaukee and Franklin, where they used a system called adenosine triphosphate (ATP) monitoring to detect the presence of organic matter on surfaces after cleaning.

Video posted by IEM partner Gregory Wilker shows the empty polling station in St Martin of Tours in Franklin on April 6, the night before voting. Using an ATP monitor, Wilker shows a reading of zero in the polling booths after disinfecting them. Credit: Interior Environmental Management via Storyful
