Aaron Danks has penned a farewell message after his Middlesbrough exit was confirmed this week, thanking fans, players and his fellow coaches for their support.

Danks left Boro on Friday after a compensation package was agreed with Bayern Munich for him to reunite with Vincent Kompany at the German giants. It brings an end to his 18 months at Boro, after he joined as an assistant coach almost two months after Michael Carrick was first appointed.

The former Aston Villa and FA coach had a particular focus on Boro's thrilling attacking football under Carrick, and was also credited with helping Boro sign a number of players over the last 18 months, notably Cameron Archer, Aaron Ramsey and Morgan Rogers.

With his Boro journey coming to an unexpected end this summer, however, Danks took to social media to say farewell, writing: "As another chapter in my coaching journey closes, I just wanted to take a moment to acknowledge a really special period in time.

"Thank you so much to all the Middlesbrough supporters. Not only did you make me feel welcome, but also my family who loved attending home and away games and being part of the Boro family. Thanks for all the messages of support following the announcement that I was moving on. It's really meant a lot to me.

"To all the players, you've created a brilliant dressing room, full of good people who are all hungry for success. Don't change and continue to chase your dreams. All the staff at the club who allowed me to be myself and enjoy coming to work every day, I'll always be grateful.

"Michael, Woody, Grant and Fets; four incredible people who took this Brummie in and created an incredible coaching team. I wish you nothing but success. I know the club is in good hands with you all leading the team forward. I'll be supporting from afar. UTB."

Boro are expected to replace Danks with the appointment of Michael Carrick's younger brother Graeme, having been granted permission by Newcastle United to speak to their current lead under-18's coach. Prior to that, he spent 15 years in various coaching development roles at the FA.
