Wolves have completed their second summer signing following Tommy Doyle's loan being made permanent and he has already been hailed as the "perfect type".

A £12m deal five-year deal has been signed on the dotted line with winger Rodrigo Gomes who joins from Braga, a Portuguese under-21 representative, who had even been linked with the likes of Atletico Madrid.

Gomes, aged 20, played for Estoril on loan last season, scoring seven goals in 30 games, an average of nearly one every four games. Before that he played 31 times for Braga since making his debut in 2020, scoring the one solitary goal but got 5 in 15 for Braga's B team between 2021 and 22.

He said: “It’s like a dream come true. To play in the Premier League, for me, it’s the best league in the world and it’s really a pleasure to be here, and I’m thankful to Wolves for this opportunity.

“The Premier League, for me, is the best league in the world and of course it’s going to be a challenge, but it’s also a dream. I’m very excited to play here and do my best.

“I think Wolves is a very good team and the staff and the gaffer wants me a lot and, for me, it’s good to feel that the staff want me. That’s a really good sign.

“I had the best season in my life in Estoril and I’m going to work hard every day to try and surpass that.

“It’s been good for me to sign early in the summer because I can get settled in here within the culture of the city and the weather too."

Towards the end of the season, manager Gary O'Neil warned Wolves would not be able to "spend big" but, in music to all fans' ears, vowed that the club is "no longer in a position where they need to sell to balance the books".

The attacking area is definitely one they needed to focus on and it is no surprise that it has been identified so soon into the summer window.

Wolves' starting options in attack have been fruitful with Neto, Cunha and Hwang all doing the business when fit but the trio have not played together as often as anyone would like and it is those back up options and competition for places that they are now trying to strengthen. Often in games they have had to rely on youngsters or even the likes of Lemina or Ait Nouri up top.

Manager Gary O'Neil said: "“I’m delighted, especially to get one in so early. I think in transfer windows it’s very easy for everything to drag on and get done very late, but from a squad point of view, laying plans for next season, it’s really important.

"The type of player Rodrigo is, he had a fantastic season last season, playing in many different positions and he’s only 20. For where we are as a club, he’s the perfect type of signing for us. He’s young and has potential.

“He’s not proven at Premier League level yet, but he’s one we definitely know we can get to that level – we can work with him and help him develop, proving himself in the toughest league in the world. I’m really looking forward to working with him, he’s a great character – every time I’ve watched him, his enthusiasm and endeavour has drawn my eyes towards him, so I’m really pleased and he’s a really good signing for us.”
